Leave another's fault with its owner. A single line — a rule of mental hygiene: leave another's TERMἁμάρτημα "there" (ἐκεῖ καταλιπεῖν), where it arose — in his ruling part. Do not carry it off, do not make it your object. The same move as at 7.29 (leave another's ἁμαρτηθέν where it was born) and 5.25 (another sins against me — "let him see to it").

Why not-making-it-mine is my business. Another's fault is DOGMAnot up to me and not my evil (8.56); to take it into myself — by anger, resentment, a settling of scores — is to transfer his κακία into my own ἡγεμονικόν, that is, to harm myself with the very thing by which he harmed only himself (cf. 9.4). The governing discipline is assent.
