Every act a "completing" of the common. The analogy turns on συμπληρωτικός ("filling out, completing"): as you yourself are a completing part of the DOGMAcivic whole (πολιτικὸν σύστημα), so let each of your acts complete the social life. The criterion of an act is ἀναφορά, its "reference" (near or far) to the TERMκοινωνικὸν TERMτέλος, the common end.
An act without the end is mutiny. An act lacking such reference "tears apart" (διασπᾷ) one's life, does not let it be one, and turns out στασιώδης — "seditious," like a citizen who, in the assembly, breaks away from the concord (συμφωνία). It is the same image of MOTIFself-severance from the Whole as at 8.34 (the cut-off hand): an anti-social act splits not only the community but the doer's own life. The governing discipline is action.
